The ISPCA would like to extend our gratitude for the increased funding dedicated to animal welfare in 2024. We extend our thanks to Minister Charlie McConalogue and his Department for their steadfast commitment to enhancing the well-being of all animals.
ISPCA CEO Dr Cyril Sullivan said: “We are incredibly grateful for this year’s allocation of €1,207,475 representing an increase of 24% compared to 2023 which will make a significant difference to the ISPCA’s work throughout 2024. The €1,207,475 is made up of €931,750 to support our National Animal Centre in Longford, €65,175 for our Equine Rescue Centre in Cork, €32,400 for our Animal Rehabilitation Centre in Donegal, €54,400 for ISPCA Waterford and €123,750 for ISPCA Wicklow. The Animal Welfare Strategy of the Department pledged to double the funding for animal welfare charities, and the ISPCA is thrilled to see this promise fulfilled. This grant is especially timely, as the need for funding has never been greater. It will contribute significantly to addressing the soaring costs, now at an all-time high, the consequences of irresponsible breeding, abandonment, and neglect during a cost of living crisis.”.
Campaigns advocating responsible pet ownership play a crucial role in lowering the instances of abandoned or surrendered dogs, thus alleviating the strain on animal charities like ourselves. That's why we are also extremely thankful for the responsible pet ownership component of the Programme for Government.
