This important event aims to strengthen cross-sector collaboration for wildlife and environmental protection by bringing together government bodies, National and International enforcement agencies, legal experts, and NGO stakeholders to explore innovative strategies, address legislative challenges, and foster partnerships that drive effective wildlife crime enforcement.
Recent articles in The Journal investigation section uncover the dark underbelly of Ireland’s illegal wildlife trade, where foxes, badgers, hares, and rabbits are snared and sold alive to be hunted or baited in savage blood sports. These cruel activities are fuelled by social media platforms like TikTok, Snapchat, and Facebook. But, despite the shocking videos visible online, it can be challenging to gather evidence that can be used in court, with the result that these atrocities often continue unchecked. This leaves animal welfare experts frustrated and calling for urgent action, including the creation of a dedicated wildlife crime unit adequately trained and resourced to tackle all aspects of wildlife crime.
This conference provides a vital platform to discuss the pressing challenges we face in protecting our wildlife and habitats, aiming to promote stronger enforcement and collaboration across all sectors to combat wildlife crime effectively.
Speakers will address crucial themes including current wildlife crime legislation, enforcement challenges, effective prevention strategies, and the importance of collaboration among agencies to combat these pressing issues. The panel discussions will enable attendees to engage directly with experts on these issues. Networking opportunities will also be available, allowing delegates to connect with other professionals in the field.
