Miracle survival of eight tiny puppies

On Friday 2nd of June, thirteen collie pups were found inside a white cement bag on a forest walk by a hiker and her children

In a lonely forest, a woman out walking heard the faintest whimpers coming from a heavy-duty cement bag. She found a litter of puppies inside. Sadly, five had passed away. This amazing animal lover then emptied her rucksack, gently placing the surviving pups inside. She then made an urgent call to the ISPCA National Animal Cruelty Helpline on 0818 515 515.

Senior Inspector Alice Lacey responded immediately, and the pups were in the vets within the hour. Their tiny freezing bodies still had their umbilical cords partially attached, so they could only have been a few days old when cruelly left to die.

Once they had received emergency fluids, they were fed some milk before being gently placed on heating pads.

Thanks to the wonderful team at City Vets in Waterford all eight pups made it through the first critical 48 hours. They are all now thriving in pairs under the loving care of ISPCA Donegal, Kildare & West Wicklow SPCA, Carlow SPCA and kind foster homes.

It is a miracle that the eight puppies rescued that day have survived. A miracle, which could not have happened without that kindhearted woman who found them and the generosity of all our wonderful supporters. When you donate to the ISPCA you are mobilising our Animal Welfare Inspectors and funding the emergency veterinary treatment that these pups were able to receive. You are helping to keep our ISPCA Rescue Centres open 365 days of the year and to give animals the love and care they so desperately need.

These pups will stay with us for another while and receive all their vaccinations before being rehomed. We’ll also make sure they are neutered or spayed. If you have a place in your heart and your home for one of these adorable pups, please email [email protected], visit https://ispca.ie/adoptions or call Laura, our Rehoming Coordinator on 043 3325035.
