Trainee Inspector/Ambulance Driver

Role Summary
An opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and passionate individual to join our Inspectorate Department located in Rathfarnham, Dublin. As a Trainee Inspector/Ambulance Driver you will be responding to calls for sick, injured and cruelly ill-treated animals. This position requires a dedicated individual who is passionate about animal welfare and thrives in a dynamic and fast paced environment.
Responsibilities & Duties
- To attend alleged cruelty calls under the supervision of the Chief Inspector
- To investigate allegations of animal cruelty, suffering and/or neglect
- To safeguard an animal’s welfare by ensuring the 5 freedoms are being adhered to and taking appropriate action to alleviate any suffering
- Compile a case file in line with current legislation where a breach of Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013 has occurred
- Using NSPCA vehicles, you will provide a safe, reliable and timely animal and wildlife transport service and attend and deal with emergency calls in an appropriate and compassionate manner
- Following all recognised protocols and procedures for transporting animals
- Monitor animals in your care and communicate any relevant information to the receiving shelter vets/staff
- Complete all required documentation and record keeping
- Engaging with other animal welfare agencies, local authorities and Gardaí
Qualifications and Person Qualities
- Extensive experience working with animals
- An animal care/handling qualification is a bonus
- Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken
- Basic knowledge of Dublin City and County
- Basic knowledge of animal husbandry
- Comfortably navigate, update, and maintain online databases and digital record‑keeping systems with accuracy and attention to detail
- Willingness and ability to learn new software tools and digital platforms as required by the role
- Full, clean, current driving licence to drive a manual vehicle in Ireland
- Flexibility regarding schedule
- Knowledge of Animal Health and Welfare legislations is a plus, training will be provided
- Physical ability to manually handle animals of all species primarily equine, feline and canine
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively manage and de‑escalate potential conflict in the field
- An ethical approach to working with animals, displaying sound judgement at all times
- Willingness to partake in ongoing training and development
Hours of Work
- Full-time, 5 days over 7.
- Flexibility required.
- Weekend and public holiday availability is essential.
