Judge Colm Roberts heard how the three defendants blocked a driveway and a public road with their vehicles in order to prevent a County Veterinary Officer, two dog wardens, and an ISPCA Senior Inspector from leaving with a dog that had been seized due to animal welfare concerns.
The stand-off, which occurred on 7th November 2023, lasted in excess of 90 minutes despite the attendance of members of an Garda Siochana.
All three defendants were given the benefit of the Probation Act having been ordered to pay €2,460 prosecution costs and to donate a total of €5,500 to the ISPCA. The matter was adjourned to February 17 for finalisation.
ISPCA Senior Inspector Emma Carroll, who was involved in the incident during which she was called “ISPCA scum”, commented “The role of animal welfare Inspector is challenging enough without having to deal with this sort of behaviour. We would like to thank Cork Co Co for pursuing this case through the courts to ensure that these individuals were held accountable for their actions”.
